Making of Let Me Be Free
Let Me Be Free was created and imagined for my Last Project for Full Sail University. I wanted to challenge myself for my last project because EDM was a genre I always do fills for on my Synth for friends, clients, etc. I have created EDM tracks before but I wanted to prove that I'm open to any genre of music as, I have mainly stayed with Alternative, County, Rock, Pop genres for my entire time at Full Sail University.
Production Credits
In Mastering, I really wanted to get the stereo feel back of my song. As a person that didn't have much Mastering Experience, I found that I looked to old classes and went with my gut and knowledge that I do have on mastering. Throughout my recording and mixing of the song, my panning and stereo image kept going mono. I ended up throwing on the Sauce Plugin in mastering and opened up the stereo field a little which, actually really made the track how i imagined it to be. The true peak of this track is -1db and has a good -15/-17 LUFS range. I also added a little more gain to get to the true peak and LUFS that I wanted. Ultimately, if this track were to be transferred to Spotify, Apple Music, Etc. It would be ready to be uploaded with no problem.
Lyrics
When you listen to Let Me Be Free you will hear that it opens with a riser with this really fun vocoder effect for a vocal. This then drops into the chorus of the song where you hear vocals there were done by myself. They are not the best vocals and I'm no vocalist myself but, for the state of the final project I needed to show that I knew how to record vocals. In a future case, I would replace my vocals with an actual singer. As you continue to listen, you will pick up on really cool effects I added throughout the song. I was really driven and inspired to make this song feel like Sad Songs by Marshmello but, adding my own spice to the song to make it stand out.
